Week 1: July 25 - July 29
Monday July 25th and Tuesday July 26th: This day will include the following: a tour of the room, introduction to your teacher, welcome letter/packet, ice breaker activities, laptop procedures/assignments/contracts, and getting to know your class website. In addition, general 8th Grade procedures will be discussed, as well as additional assignments for lockers, locks, etc.
Wednesday July 27th: Students will be provided an introduction to the Hydrosphere, completing self-guided notes via a web quest. Students will complete such using the provided video URL at the top of the page, and responding to questions from such. The teacher will review/highlight important aspects following the completion of the self-guided notes Thursday July 28th: Students will finish the Hydrosphere Introduction. In addition, students will be introduced to the weekly Vocabulary Frayer Model. Students will complete such through a guided introduction by the teacher. Friday July 29th: Students will be introduced to the concept of Specific Heat in relation to water and other materials. In order to grasp a better understanding of specific heat in relation to water, students will complete a virtual laboratory using the provided document. Following such, students will be introduced to Quizlet for vocabulary review, setting up personal accounts and reviewing vocabulary with any remaining time provided in class. |

Week 2: August 1st - August 5th
Monday August 1st: Students will complete a Water Cycle Review by accessing the notes to the right. Students will complete such independently, working to remember as much as possible from previous years. The teacher will review the notes at the end of class or whole-group depending where the students are.
Tuesday August 2nd: Students will practice logging into, navigating and using the resources within Quizlet. Wednesday August 3rd: Using the infographics provided on the right, students will complete the given Hydrosphere Infographic handout which looks deeper into the percentages/characteristics of water on Planet Earth. Thursday August 4th: Students will be introduced to the concept of salinity through a laboratory. Students will complete the pre-laboratory consisting of Questions 1-7 (pg. 1-2) before moving onto the application portion on Friday. Friday August 5th: Students will complete the application portion of the salinity laboratory provided (pg. 3-4), responding to the follow-up questions at the end. |

Week 3: August 8th - August 12th
Monday August 8th: Students will complete the Quiz provided, responding to the given questions and reviewing missed responses at the end. Any remaining time will be provided for students to work on their unit vocabulary or missing assignments.
Tuesday August 9th: Students will complete the given surface water skeleton handout in class while the teacher presents the surface water notes provided. Wednesday August 10th: Students will use the given URL at the top of the page to read the Discover North Carolina's River Basins packet and answer the given questions. Thursday August 11th: Students will continue exploring NC's River Basins via the Virtual Laboratory, adding to such via a CBS 60 Minutes clip on "Depleted Water" sources around our world. Friday August 12th: Students will use the USGS website at the top of the page to uncover groundwater and its implications on our daily life. Using the link, they will click on the box titled "Learn More" on the left hand side of the website to respond to the given questions provided. Monday August 15th: Students will continue completing the Groundwater WebQuest. In addition, students will complete the Master Check for their first Quiz, reflecting on their progress on the standard 8E1.1. |
